This index is an indicator of body wellness and lets a person know whether his body weight is normal, underweight or overweight.
Body Mass Index or Body Mass Indicator is a diagnostic method which helps identify possible weight problems in adults. This index was developed by a Belgian statistician named Adolphe Quelet and was also known as the Quetelet index. This measure of body fatness can be used as a guideline but a physician’s advice should also be taken before taking any extreme measure. Obesity can lead to a lot of health related ailments like diabetes, hypertension and other stress related illnesses if not tackled in time. This is just one of the risk assessment measures that should be taken.
